FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is an IPL Photo Facial?

At Bellisimo we use the Candela I2PL, an advanced photo skin rejuvenation system. The Candela Ellipse IPL2 is not a laser but rather an intense pulsed light which employs a broad spectrum of light using more than one band on the wavelength to address a variety of skin conditions, as opposed to a laser which emits a single wavelength to address and target a specific skin condition. It features patented technology that reduces the risks of side effects to the surrounding skin. In its simplest form intense pulsed light uses short, safe, very bright bursts of light emitted from a flash lamp to treat specific skin conditions. Can be done on any body part.

What IT Does

  • Erase fine lines and wrinkles
  • Increase collagen production
  • Improve skin texture and quality
  • Correct brown spots, pigmentation & liver spots
  • Shrink enlarged pores
  • Soften & remove facial redness such as rosacea, broken capillaries and acne.

WILL IT HURT? :

The procedure is gentle, noninvasive and safe.

CAN I BE TREATED?:

  • It is recommended that patients avoid sun and tanning for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment.
  • Cannot be pregnant or breastfeeding. Must be off Accutane for 6 months or more. Cannot be on antibiotics or any light sensitive medication.
  • It is recommended for individuals who suffer from fever blisters or cold sores to start medication prior to treatment.

POST CARE:

Redness similar to a mild sunburn following the treatment which usually generally lasts less than 24 hrs. Avoid anything that creates heat for 2 days after treatments such as saunas & hot tubs. Pigment present in the treated area will usually darken. Don’t pick or scratch this area. They will usually flake off in 3-5 days depending on body area. Sunscreen is a must at all times. You will be given at home post care instructions.

Optimal results are obtained in 3-5 treatments. Packages are available.

Is the Candela I2PL a Laser or Photo Skin Rejuvenating System?

The Candela Ellipse I2PL (Intense Pulsed Light) is an advanced photo skin rejuvenation system that treats sun-damaged skin by reducing pigment and vascular abnormalities through applied heat. The I2PL is light and ergonomically shaped which makes it comfortable for the client and operator. It also features patented technology that reduces the risk of side effects to the surrounding skin. The Candela Ellipse I2PL is not laser skin rejuvenation but rather intense pulsed light, or photo skin rejuvenation. Whereas a laser uses one band on the wavelength to address a specific and targeted skin condition, intense pulsed light uses more than one band on the wavelength to address a variety of skin conditions.

What is Intense Pulsed Light?

In its simplest form, intense pulsed light is short flashes of very bright light. The Ellipse I2PL uses short, safe bursts of light emitted from a flash lamp to treat specific skin conditions. The technology is rather sophisticated, but safe. The Ellipse I2PL system very carefully controls the overall delivery of the light – both the amount of light and the speed of its delivery to your specific skin condition.

Can I be Treated?

Because skin rejuvenation is based on light absorption by melanin and hemoglobin, treatments are most effective in a patient that does not have a suntan. Therefore, it is recommended that patients do NOT suntan for at least 4 weeks prior to starting skin rejuvenation treatments. The lighter the skin, the more pronounced the contrast is between the age spots, blood vessels and the skin itself, thus making treatments more effective. The Ellipse I2PL has settings for different skin colors that deliver the correct energy output for your complexion.

Does it Hurt?

Many patients describe our skin rejuvenation treatment as a warming sensation similar to the feeling they have after a day in the sun. No anesthetics are required.

Do I Need to Take Special Precautions Before and After Skin Rejuvenation Treatment?

The Ellipse I2PL skin rejuvenation light used is a completely safe and visible light. Potentially harmful wavelengths are removed by the unique Ellipse I2PL Dual Mode Filtering system. Since tanning takes place through the accumulation of pigment (melanin) in the skin, it is important to avoid tanning before and during the treatment period, i.e., sun, solarium or self-tanning cream. If you are over-exposed to the sun, your tanned skin will absorb more light which may have adverse treatment effects. Generally, no post-treatment skin rejuvenation care is necessary. But people with sensitive skin may benefit from applying an ice pack immediately after treatment. In addition, for a few weeks following treatment, it is recommended that sun block of at least SPF 30 blocking both UVA and UVB rays is used.

What Can I Expect After Treatment?

Following skin rejuvenation treatment at Bellisimo, you will notice that your skin will have a more youthful appearance. It will look and feel firmer. There will be an improvement in the overall texture of the skin and brown spots and red spider veins will virtually disappear. Immediately following treatment, there will be a darkening of brown spots with clearing taking place within one week.
